Today is Earth Day. It's a great day to take your dog for a walk or hike in nature and consider the ways that you as an individual and as a dog owner can help the environment.
1. Follow the 3 ”R’s”
Reduce & Recycle: You can reduce the waste by not buying disposable plastic items such as bowls, toys, etc. Made in China. Look for items made with recycled materials Made in USA. Visit www.cycledog.com
Cycle Dog creates the world’s best dog products with a focus on the environment and sustainability. They started in 2009 by upcycling inner tube rubber into our no-stink collars. Since then, they have saved millions of tubes from becoming landfill waste. All Cycle Dog products use post consumer recycled materials and are made to last, durability equals sustainability. All hand-sewn products are proudly made in Portland, Oregon.
Reuse: If you have dog items that you are no longer using donate them to a local animal shelter.
2. Take to the trails
Trails don't have to be parks. They can be any area where your dog can discover new sights and smells.
3. Pick up after your dog. Dog poop contains bacteria and can sometimes contain harmful parasites. Prevent the spread of disease by picking up after your dog and disposing of waste in biodegradable doggy bags. More about bags here:www.bustle.com/p/the-5-best-biodegradable-dog-poop-bags-9912305
4. Plant dog-friendly plants
Earth Day doesn't have to be limited to just planting trees. Plant some dog-friendly plants too. Add beauty to your yard with sunflower, magnolia, and snapdragons. Before planting any plants check to be sure they aren't poisonous. Visit www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants
Enjoy Earth Day and everyday. Happy 50 Year Anniversary of Earth Day.

This is Boujee. He had emergency surgery this afternoon. We were able to help with partially paying for the surgery. His owner is facing hardship in these unprecedented times and needs help covering the cost of surgery and post-op care. Please find it in your hearts to help. No donation is too little in these stressful financial times. We are praying for a speedy recovery. #lucytotherescue

It's warm and sunny here in New Paltz, NY today. We have been in quarantine for 38 days. Our nonprofit has been temporarily closed due to COVID-19. We hope to open again soon. We are funded strictly by donations so it's imperative we start fundraising to get our small business back up and running. www.lucytherescuedog.org/blog
